SHS Students Meet Federal Reserve President

Two SHS students, senior Austin Van Velson and junior Will Helmer, attended a recent community gathering of local, area bankers, business leaders and community members at a recent gathering to hear Esther L. George, the president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.  Also attending with the Seward High students was their teacher, Clark Kolterman and Carl Heinicke, a student at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.  The meeting was hosted by the Jones National Bank and Trust of Seward and Milford in their new auditorium in the bank’s lower level.

Ms. George is a member of the Federal Open Market Committee, which has the authority over US monetary policy.  She commented on the economy and the upswing, spoke on her role with the Federal Reserve and shared her vision for the approaching year.  A question and answer period followed her remarks.

A reception followed in the Jones Bank’s newly remodeled lobby, where individuals could personally meet with Ms. George.  Jones National Bank’s President, Max Wake served as the community host and emcee for the event.
